"Pop Goes The Cholo", Way to Die #895, is the third death to be featured in "Better Them Than Us", which aired on March 16, 2011.
Plot[]
Two street gang members named Eduardo and Juan take a third member named Enrique to a back alley ex-doctor named Mr. Stitches, who lost his license after having sex with his anesthetized patients previously, to treat a bullet wound to Enrique's chest. Eduardo ends up pistol whipping Mr. Stitches into unconsciousness after losing patience with him for the latter telling the former to shut up. With Mr. Stitches getting pistol whipped and knocked out cold, Eduardo and Juan decide to do the operation themselves, but due to them being unsure about what to do, they fail after inserting the tracheal tube down Enrique's esophagus, rather than the trachea and end up hemorrhaging Enrique's stomach by filling it with air and causing it to explode, killing him and sending him to Hell.
Transcript[]
(Opens with Enrique running with a duffle bag in his hand, clutching his bleeding chest as police sirens go off in the background)
Narrator: Gangbanging in Albuquerque is no joke. As a gateway town for illegals-
Juan: Come on!
Eduardo: Wake up!
Narrator: The level of criminal violence is high.
Eduardo: Let's go, we gotta get him to a doctor, man.
Narrator: The only one these Cholos could take him to...
(Eduardo bangs on a metal door)
Narrator: Was a guy known as Mr. Stitches.
Eduardo: Get in, get in boy.
Stitches: Come on, come on in.
Narrator: An ex-doctor who lost his license after having sex with his anesthetized patients.
Stitches: Get him over here, okay.
Bernie Wilson: (Distorted voice) These gang members, they don't want to deal with the hospitals and police and law enforcements. So, you know I'm the guy. I deal with gunshot wounds. Lacerations. Stab wounds. I've seen a guy come in there with his head crushed. I do a very good job. So as long as I'm doing a good job, nobody's messing with me!
Eduardo: Come on man! I need my homeboy alive! Or you ain't going to get paid!
Stitches: Just shut up and let me do my job!!
Eduardo: You tryin' to get crazy with me? Nobody talks to me like that!
(Eduardo then pistol whips Stitches on his head, knocking him out cold.)
Juan: Hey, what are you doing? You just knocked out the doctor Eddie!
Eduardo: We'll do it ourselves. Give me that tube, ese. Come on, don't trip.
Narrator: Eduardo had seen his share of "E.R" re-runs. If Stitches could shove a tube down Enrique's throat; why couldn't he?
Eduardo: Yeah, I got it man, I got it. Just turn it on, turn on the machine.
(Juan turns on the oxygen machine, as unbeknownst to the two, Enrique's stomach begins to expand.)
Eduardo: What are you doing over there man?
Juan: I don't know how to work this thing, holmes!
Eduardo: Oh!
Juan: What's happening?! I don't know what's going on, man!
Eduardo: Oh!
(Enriques stomach finally explodes from the pressure, showering his buddies and the entire makeshift O.R in blood)
Narrator: That's why.
(It then pans over Enriques corpse)
Juan: Come on man!
(Both leave before it cuts to a CGI recreation of the oxygen tube going directly down into the stomach of a skeleton, causing the stomach to expand from all the unwanted air before it eventually pops.)
Dr. Khyber Zaffarkhan: Esophageal Intubations are actually a relatively common mistake, in the hands of an untrained individual. Because, the esophagus is located behind the trachea, where the tube is supposed to go. Unlike the lungs, the stomach has no way of expelling air. If you don't pull it out in time, the stomach can blow up like a balloon.
(Flashback)
Narrator: Enrique thought that sneaking into this country and leading a life of crime was a good idea.
Juan: You just knocked out the doctor Eddie!
Narrator: Hey Enrique: This is why the call it gang...
(Flashback to Enrique's stomach exploding before panning to his corpse again)
Narrator: Bang.
