1000 Ways To Die Wiki

"Snakenstein", Way to Die #441, is the seventh and final death featured in "Getting A Rise From The Dead", which aired on February 16, 2011.

Plot[]

In the late 1930s, Germany was taking scientific research into areas of questionable ethics, but no one took it as far as Dr. Von Metzger, he was trying to discover the secret of immortality, his methods were to experiment on recently killed animals and try bringing them back to life, it was called... "Reanimation".

Dr. Cloyce Martin: Reanimation is the idea of sustaining life through artificial means. By using an early heart-lung machine called the Autojector, scientists could feed oxygenated blood back into organs and keep the organ functioning. This was a science of the 30s and 40s, it was all about finding the truth between life and death. These type of experiments ultimately led to the success of open-heart surgery.

He applied electrical stimulation and reoxygenated the blood and managed to bring life back to dead body parts, or at least make the muscles move as if they were alive.

In the medical community many thought that Metzger had gone where no other scientist would dare, but Metzger was a mad genius and did not plan to give up, until then he had only reanimated amputated parts of dead animals, but when he used a rattlesnake, he managed a complete resuscitation.

Metzger proceeded to do the resuscitation procedure on the snake and... he did it, the snake was alive, it worked, but he got an unexpected response, while Metzger celebrated having achieved it, the electricity caused the snake's muscles to sink its fangs into his neck and injected him with the venom, turning the living scientist into a very dead and inanimate one.

Jules Sylvester: The venom of the rattlesnake, it's a cytotoxic, hemotoxic blood poison. And it does exactly what it does, it just blows stuff up in the body. It bit him in the neck, injected venom into him. His throat swelled up, his organs were destroyed, and he inevitably died.

Killing him and sending this crazy scientist to Heaven where he could work on resuscitation to return people to Earth.

Narrator: Von Metzger was a questionable quack, looking for immortality. Instead, all he found... was a new way to die.

Narrator: In the late 1930s, Germany was pushing scientific research into questionable and unethical areas. But no one was pushing as hard and as far, as Dr. Von Metzger. His goal? Find the key to immortality. His methods? He would experiment on freshly killed animals, and try to bring them back to life. It was called....

Narrator: By applying electrical stimulation, and re-oxygenated blood, he was able to bring dead body-parts back to life. Or at least stimulate their involuntary muscles to twitch, as if alive.

Narrator: Many in the medical community thought Metzger was going where no true scientist should ever dare.

Narrator: But Metzger was a mad genius, who would not be dissuaded. Up to this point, he had only been able to reanimate... severed animal body parts. It was only when he used a dead rattlesnake, did he achieve full-body reanimation.

(Dr. Von Metzger turns on the machine, the electricity causing the snake's body to start to slither)

Narrator: But Metzger got an unexpected response.

Narrator: The electricity triggered muscles in the snake to sink its fangs deep into Metzger's neck, turning the living scientist into a very... unanimated... dead one.

(Demonic Introduction but it got taken down, is playing)

Jules Sylvester: The venom of the rattlesnake, it's a cytotoxic, hemotoxic blood poison. And it does exactly what it does, it just blows stuff up in the body. It bit him in the neck, injected venom into him. His throat swelled up, his organs were destroyed, and he inevitably died.

(Recap, What goes up is playing)

Narrator: Von Metzger was a questionable quack, looking for immortality. Instead, all he found... was a new way to die.
