1000 Ways To Die Wiki

"Tapped Out", Way to Die #597, is the fifth death featured in "Hurry Up and Die", which aired on October 26, 2010.

Plot[]

Two aspiring amateur wrestlers named Stink Face and Dirt Bomb with dreams of going pro assault each other with increasingly insane objects, including fluorescent light bulbs. During practice, one wrestler slashes his partner in the chest with a weed whacker. The first wrestler collapses and dies. Stink Face and Dirt Bomb did not realize it but fluorescent bulbs contain a mercury vapor. When Dirt Bomb sucked the mercury in, the mercury caused his air sacs to turn black, along with his lungs and heart. The mercury also entered his blood stream through the open staple wounds on his chest and sending the amateur wrestler to heaven.

Transcript[]

(The scene opens on Stink Face and Dirt Bomb walking towards the viewer like it's a PPV match)

Narrator: What do we have here? Two dudes on their way to a gay pride parade?

(Stink Face unfolds a ladder)

Narrator: Nah, just some morons with backyard dreams of making it on the pro-wrestling circuit.

(The two walk up to their ring.)

Dirt-Bomb: Yeah!

Narrator: Stink-Face and Dirt-Bomb have been rehearsing their..."act" for the last two months.

Dirt-Bomb: Whoo!

David Sivits (Professional Wrestler): People have died from doing backyard wrestling! They don't realize the danger they are putting themselves into. You have trained wrestlers...who break their necks. So the odds of these guys hurting themselves are extremely high!

(Stink-Face then does a clothesline and elbow drop on Dirt-Bomb)

Narrator: People who think wrestling is a sham should check out these two. There's no way you fake being this bad.

(Dirt-Bomb keeps choking Stink-Face with the whip, the latter responding by delivering a backwards nut shot. Stink-Face then picks up a staple-gun.)

Narrator: They ripped off stunts from other acts.

Dirt-Bomb: Here I go

(Stink-Face then unleashes his inner New Jack and begins stapling Dirt-Bomb's chest)

Narrator: And even had a few of their own. One was called "lights out"

(Stink-Face hits Dirt-Bomb with a fluorescent lightbulb tube on his chest, then another on his back, and a final one on the back of his head. Dirt-Bomb then grabs a weed-whacker)

Narrator: Another they were trying out for the first time...

(Dirt-Bomb rips the pull-cord and the motor starts up)

Narrator: "The Chest Whacker"

(Dirt-Bomb runs at Stink-Face, digging the weed-whacker's blades in his chest as blood sprays on his upper torso. Him laughing maniacally as Stink-Face screams in pain.)

Narrator: Looks like it still needs work.

(Dirt-Bomb backs up, clearly woozy and light-headed as he begins to cough.)

Narrator: But hold on…

(Dirt-Bomb then falls down on the mat)

Narrator: Shouldn't the guy who just got whacked fall down?

(Flashback to Stink-Face doing "lights out")

Narrator: Stink-Face and Dirt-Bomb didn't realize it, but fluorescent bulbs contain mercury vapor; an odorless, colorless substance.

Dirt-Bomb: Gimme that!

Narrator: Over the last few weeks, Dirt-Bomb was smashed with over 200 tubes, breathing in the toxic dust. Even worse...his open staple wounds acted as a direct conduit to his bloodstream. Dirt-Bomb didn't know it, but he was mainlining mercury.

(Shows a CGI recreation of the Mercury dust particles entering the human body)

Dr. Shetal Desai: The exposure of mercury through an open wound can increase the toxicity associated with mercury. The cumulative exposure by the sheer volume of the number of lightbulbs would have accumulated in his respiratory system, and led to brain damage as well as Tachycardia, which is a rapid heartbeat, and then eventually death

(Flashback)

Narrator: Stink Face and Dirt Bomb were talentless, clueless, and now one of them...is lifeless.
